I am a Canadian researcher and teacher of media theory and history. My home institution is Carleton University in Ottawa but I am based in Weimar at IKKM for the summer. I wrote a book about lists that used the form to think about, among other things, how distinctions between "high" and "low" become inscribed. It is called _List Cultures: Knowledge and Poetics from Mesopotamia to BuzzFeed_. I am at IKKM to develop a project on the history of salt as an elemental medium of culture and civilization (a seemingly banal or 'low' element that has been so important for millennia).

What is your interest in high & low?
I am interested in work that telescopes between high and low, macro and micro, molar and molecular, whether we are talking about space or time, culture or history, object or abstraction. This event will serve as a nice complement to activities I am pursuing at the IKKM this summer as a research fellow.
